The Assam NMMS Scholarship 2025 is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme “National Mean-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme NMMS” which was launched on May,2008. This scheme focuses on helping the economically weaker section of society by encouraging the children to continue their studies after class 8th. This is to prevent them dropping out due to financial constraints.
About
The Assam NMMS Scholarship was launched with a vision to promote literacy and to stop children from dropping out of schools. This is mainly for the students who are studying in Government or Government-aided schools. It identifies the talented students and help them financially to let them pursue their dream in education. Assam state has 2,411 scholarships in the academic year. Class IX to Class XII selected students are given Rs 12,000 per annum (i.e. Rs 1,000 per month) as long as they satisfy continuing eligibility requirements.
A state level NMMSS Examination Patern test is conducted which comprises of 2 tests;
Mental Ability Test(MAT); there are 90 multiple choice questions testing the verbal and non-verbal cognitive abilities of the student like reasoning and analytical thinking.
Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT); there are 90 MCQs covering subjects like science, social science and mathematics as taught in the class 7th and class 8th
Objective
The main aim of this scholarship is to encourage children from the economically weaker section to continue their studies. This is done by rewarding the students after selecting the most talented student. The scheme help them financial so that the students don’t face problem financially to keep their education going. This will promote literacy and bring out potential from a child in a long term which will be overall beneficial for the student as well as for the nation.

Eligibility Criteria
- Class of Study: The student should be in the Class VIII, during the exam period, in a government or local body school.
- Academic Performance: Should have obtained at minimum (in general category 55% and in SC/ST 50) the previous class marks.
- Income Limit Annual parental/guardian income should not exceed Rs.3,50,000.
- School: the school should be government or government-aided in the state of Assam
- Age Requirement: The pupil must be under 14 years old according to the latest requirements (it can be slightly higher or lower in accordance with the state).
- Continuing Eligibility: The student needs to be maintaining minimum academic performance in Classes IX-XII to be eligible to be able to receive the scholarship.

Salient Features
- The scheme is run by Ministry of Education (GoI) to detect “talented children from indigent families” who could be provided adequate knowledge for the continuation of their education at higher level beyond class VIII.
- Selection is through a test (for ClassVIII students) and in case the candidate is selected, scholarship support from ClassIX onwards.
- The value of the Scholarship in Assam is `12,000 per annum for 4 years i.e. Class IX to XII provided all other eligibility conditions are fulfilled and the candidate continues his/her education.
- There is a family income cap to be eligible : in Assam the parental/family income limitation should not exceed approx ₹3.50lakh per annum.
- The purpose of the award is to dissuade drop‑out after class VIII (at this level, children from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to be found out of school), through provision of financial support.

- First of all you need to visit the official application portal i.e bidyarthi.co.in or through the “Bidyarthi” mobile app

- Click on the application form option and register yourself as a new user by filling out the details
- Now enter the candidate details
- Enter all the school information
- Upload all the necessary documents asked
- Pay the application fee at the end as per your category :general/OBC Rs.200,SC/ST Rs. 180, differently-abled Rs.175
- After the submition, download the confirmation page for the record.
